While on a blind double date with his brother, Kingston is introduced to Shandre, the beautiful owner of the jazz and poetry lounge they're attending. Much to his surprise, the date takes an unexpected turn when Shandre abruptly leaves, leading Kingston and his ego on a mission to win her over. She reluctantly accepts Kingston's advances as he reveals another side of himself.
During their newfound romance, Kingston develops a high regard for his heritage as Shandre introduces him to a lifestyle deeply rooted in African American culture. He also finds himself falling head over heels for the first time; but when the past resurfaces, Kingston and Shandre are forced to rethink their burgeoning romance.
